Why We Created the Mobile Tidepool Website

Our partners at UCI helped us to develop our mobile tidepool website to help every visitor enjoy Laguna’s coastline responsibly and with a deeper understanding of the fragile ecosystems found here. With thousands of people exploring our beaches each year, we recognized the need for an accessible tool that guides visitors on how to protect marine life, plan their visit thoughtfully, and understand the natural treasures they’re experiencing.

But this tool is more than just an educational guide—it’s a way for the entire community to participate in ocean stewardship. We believe that protecting the coast isn’t the job of scientists alone. That’s why our mobile site encourages visitors to share observations, report wildlife sightings, and help monitor tidepool conditions. Every piece of data, whether from a trained scientist or a curious beachgoer, strengthens our understanding of these ecosystems and improves our ability to protect them.
